1) Who are you and what do you do?

Since its beginning in 2000, ONI, a 501(c)3 organization, has positively impacted the lives of the blind and visually impaired through employment at our tissue converting facility. Through employment and other services, the opportunities they are given here allow them to live meaningful, productive, and independent lives, turning a disability into an ability. ONI’s successes are many, but none more impressive than its number one ranking for employing the blind.

Outlook Nebraska, Inc.:

  • Is the largest employer of the blind and visually impaired in Nebraska.
  • Helps the blind gain self-confidence and awareness of their capabilities.
  • Empowers the blind to become independent taxpaying citizens.
  • Prepares its associates to achieve upward mobility to attain career goals.

2) What aspect of your company brings you the most pride?

At ONI, we work hard each day to improve the lives of blind people in our community. It is truly inspiring to see a person who goes from losing their sight and not knowing what to do with the rest of their life to becoming an independent, productive member of society again. We want everyone to know that a blind person when given the proper tools can be independent and successful individuals.

3) Use three words to describe your business.

Opportunities, independence, upward mobility

4) Where would you like to see your business in five years?

Since the acquisition of our permanent home, we have been able to put some thoughts into developing a menu of services for the blind and visually impaired members of this community. In the next five years, we want to expand services for blind and visually impaired children and seniors that would allow them to enhance their skills.

5) Can you tell us something about your business that most people won’t know?

We have a machine that gives us the ability to recycle dust.

6) Why are you a member of the Ralston Area Chamber of Commerce?

All of us enjoy our relationship with the chamber. It is a great group that is full of support and great ideas. We are excited to continue being a part of this wonderful group!
